Hørsholm vs. PIBBK

Author: Matthieu Quéva

Game winner: Hørsholm won the game 80 to 70

Game MVP: Jan Pawlas, for his offensive impact under the basket as well as his intensive defense and rebounding skills.

Highlight of the game: Coming from the base line, a player from Hørsholm has attempted to push it to the basket, at a very important time of the game (4th quarter, Hørsholm is a few points ahead).

But there stood Gabriel “Not In My House” de Moreta Alonso, who denied access with an authoritative block.

Summary of the game:

Tension can be felt from both teams at the beginning of the game. Both Hørsholm and PIBBK have lost their first game, and both can pretend to the victory.

In this context, Hørsholm is bearing much better the pressure in the beginning of the game. The rapidity and mobility of these young players is opposed to the height of PIBBK, playing with three of their four centers (Jens, Jan and Søren). But it is Hørsholm that scores the first baskets of the game, as several fouls put them on the line (3-0). But PIBBK immediately steps up, thanks to two primed baskets from Jan (3-4). But the reaction is of short duration. Hørsholm imposes its rhythm, and set the second gear, smothering PIBBK with a 14-2 run (17-6). But the temper of the best team in the world (i.e. PIBBK) is not to demonstrate anymore, and PIBBK gets back immediately in the game with a 17-2 run, under the impulse of Jan and Matth (6 points each), to end up the first quarter with a 4-point lead (19-23).

The second quarter sees a mano a mano between the two teams, where nobody wants to let the game go, resulting in a sequence of four changes of lead during the quarter. PIBBK then gets back to the restrooms with a small point ahead at half-time (40-41).

Hørsholm starts the second half with two 3-pointers, but PIBBK is holding on, and the score is tied after 6 minutes in the second half (50-50). However, PIBBK’s play starts loosing the quality it had until then, and the worst starts to be palpable. Though inside play had been very efficient in the first half, PIBBK begins to insist too much on three-point shots, while the efficiency is not there. And what should happen happens. Hørsholm takes advantage of these missed shots, as well as PIBBK’s famous turnovers, and ends the third quarter with a 6-point lead (59-53).

As often in this kind of situation, the team with the best mental is the one that wins the fight. Hørsholm directly shows its ambition in this last quarter by hitting a 3-pointer at the start (62-53). Their intensive pressing is now paying, and PIBBK loses the ball on several turnovers, sometimes just by a lack of attention. Thomas hit two 3-pointers, but it’s kind of late: Hørsholm has taken a 10-point lead (71-61). The end of the game is a desperate attempt from PIBBK to catch up with Hørsholm, but the harm is done. Hørsholm wins this game, on a 80-70 advantage, setting up the second loss of PIBBK in this 2007-2008 season.

    Team meeting decisions

Filed under: Various — piibbk @ 1:10 pm

    Hi everybody

As you all know we talked about a lot of things at the team meeting and in the following I will try to put in writing what we agreed upon.

    • club fee, we came to the conclusion that everybody have to make sure they pay the club fee or else they will not be allowed to practise and play. That means if you haven’t paid by the 10th of october ( two weeks from now) or made an agreement with Anne you might as well stay home. the accountnumber is                             reg: 5226 account:  1003538                                                                                             the price is 1600 and for students it is 1100
    • fine system: being late for practise without telling coach or another player that will be at the practise is 50 kr. being late or not showing up for officials duties is 200 kr, but that does not mean you can pay your way out of this. It is still EXTREMELY important that you show up or make sure that somebody else does and you have to be there 1/2 an hour before tip-off. Committing a technical foul in a game will also cost you 200 kr (coach gets 1 freebie) and the last fine is 1 kr for every point we lose by.
    • washing of the uniforms: we will make a system so that we take turns washing the uniforms and the person bringing the uniforms will also be responsible for bringing pop/beer for the post-game-talk
    • the person with lowest free throw % will have to write a recap of the game which will be posted on the blog I will set up in the near future
    • postgame talk will include voting for mvp and highlight of the game
    • finding sponsors for new uniforms: everybody should ask their dad/boss/secretary if they want to sponsor new clothes for us
    • everybody should tell coach if they want to play for the second team if they are not picked for the firrst team or only get the last thirty seconds of the game
    • Brian will find a date where we will have a party/x-mas lunch at his work place
    • I will try to set up a blog with useful info, game summaries, links etc
    • we will make a phone/mail list as soon as possible

I think that is close to everything that we talked about. We forgot to talk about the Marius situation so perhaps we should use a minute tomorrow and get that over with.

anyway, let me know if you have any comments

    Murstenskasterne vinder sølv

Filed under: Various — piibbk @ 3:51 pm

Piibbk’s farver blev forsvaret da et meget tungt hold stillede op og nåede hele vejen til finalen i gam3 store turnering. Her fik de dog klø af et hold der skød uhyggeligt godt.
